Warren's office has
been referred to as the "Office of the People." The office is called
that because it delivers services to people at every important
juncture of life. In fact, its services touch an estimated 1.5
million people annually. Some of its functions include:
- Voter registration and the conduct of elections
- Recording of all real property transactions
- Issuing marriage licenses, qualifying Notary Publics and
providing birth, death and marriage certificates
- The valuation of all real and personal property for property
tax purposes
Prior to launching his career in government, Warren worked
in the private sector. He served in Vietnam and following
an honorable discharge, pursued his education at San Diego
University where he graduated with honors. He has also studied
at Stanford and Harvard Universities.
As a locally elected official, Warren Slocum has strived to deliver
"good government" with a "customer friendly" common sense approach.
Examples of his proven leadership include:
- Founding of the California Trial Court Training
Institute at Stanford University which received the prestigious
Ralph Kleps Award.
- Production of the earliest election returns of any major
California jurisdiction through state of the art technology. (His
election's expertise has been sought by local election
administrators as well as foreign governments.)
- He is the first Assessor in the nation to utilize the World
Wide Web as a service delivery option for customers wanting to
receive important valuation and assessment services online.
- He has published articles on technology, rekindling democracy
in America, youth in government, and speaks to professional groups
on topics related to the strategic uses of the Internet in the
public sector.
- Warren has served on the Board of Directors of the
California County Clerks Association and is past Chairman of the
"Futures Committee" which is responsible for charting new
directions for the statewide association as it approaches the 21st
century. He is the past president of the California Elected
Officials Association and a member of other professional
organizations.
Family and community are important to Warren. He is past
president of the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club and the
Redwood Shores Rotary. He lives in Redwood City with his wife
Maria and sons Jonathan and Justin.
